It's like this until it nears the end of the hook where you finally get a visual of the whole of Cole's face. Then slowly he starts to rotate his head and hints of lights are shun upon him but the only visual you have is the outline of J.Cole. However, as the blue screen showcasing Cole's mother is shown, the music begins at the same time and slowly the camera lowers down to a close up shot of Cole who is facing upwards with no lighting upon him, while he is vocally harmonizing with the beat. Some also suggest the video showing his mother at the start, places it beyond doubt that the title is a play on him having only one parent (a-parent- ly ). When the music video starts, a blue screen is shown screening Cole’s mother. The road, pavement and anything else you see is quite dark, illuminating a really gloomy atmosphere from the beginning. However, when Kendrick and this woman are seen dead, the atmosphere is still the same consisting of night time, maybe a little breezy atmosphere. The woman is presumably dead too but no gunshots are shown on her and she has her iphone in her hand, which links to another blank screen with a heading that proceeds into the next scene. For example, the most significant out of the three is the third one where it states ‘Love Hurts’ and cuts to the next scene a second later with an overhead shot of Kendrick Lamar with gunshots in his back laying on a woman. Also they are shown either at the beginning or end of a verse or hook. Briefly speaking, over the whole duration of the video, there appears 3 blank screens with something written on it in white font, appearing for a second or two which to the viewer determines the next scene/part of the video and to their quick second predictions, the video proceeds.
